So why do you ship Remus/Ginny? What attracted you to this ship? Was there a particular story? Did the pairing just hit you in the middle of the night? Did you stumble across it completely by accident?

Umm... oddly enough, I was reading some fanfiction and getting unbelievably sick of people writing "i suk @ sumaries" in their summaries of their story, so I decided to see if I could find a particular pairing where no one had done that on fanfiction.net. I tried nearly everything, and was beginning to grow quite exasperated when I hit Remus/Ginny and found the single page (at least, I think I found it when it was just a page long) of fanfiction. I read "In the Service of the Queen" by DaysLikeThis and "Cherries" by azureviolet, and was immediately hooked by the poetic style and emotion of the characters... That was probably a bit longer than any of you wanted, but that's me for you.

We love the lengthy, in-depth stuff here mrsnilescrane!, so it's all good. What an interesting way to come to a ship . I think I was bored and just going through the list of male characters + Ginny and found that there were a few really good R/G stories. aikakone's stories were some of the first I read and really liked, so patiently waited for stories to be written for the ship (until I couldn't wait any longer and started writing my own).

I was writing When the Past Needs You and had the Obligatory Romantic Pairing coming up. I wanted Sirius, Remus and Ginny to all be happy and paired off. But who should Ginny go with? I went with Remus and haven't looked back since I started absorbing everything Remus and Ginny that I could get my hands on. My friends thought I was crazy - or sick - to see the two together, but I rarely let what my friends think faze me. I ship Remus and Ginny because it is wonderful. I like the shippers ( ), and I like the whole feel it has. There's a sense of...coming home (to use a really corny expression).

I should probably anwer, too. Mine is a mix of things that started last year before the release of the 5th book.
I had gone to my local library and checked out the audio book for Goblet of Fire. I enjoyed it, but realized I had forgotten significant parts of book 3. So I reread that.
I knew that Remus was coming back in book 5 and I realized that I was looking forward to seeing him in print again. I wasn't a rabid Remus fan then, but I knew JKR liked him. That was quite good for me.
I've also been a huge canon Ron/Hermioe shipper. I'm not too vocal about it because I just believe in it and what more is there to say? Anyway, I had heard of a good fic "After the End" that was supposed to have phenomenal R/Hr in it. I started reading that before book 5 came out and finished it promptly after I finished book 5. I can tell you that at the time, I found that massive fan fic much more satisfying than the Order of the Phoenix.
In that story, Remus is Ginny's private tutor as she finishes her seventh year away from Hogwarts. She even lives in his house, and notably even after Harry and Ron move out. Plus, in the story Remus helps Ginny discover her own amazing magic, and she first uses it to help him by making Wolfsbane Potion. Before she does, the writers put in words about her being nervous around Remus, etc.
That story is NOT a Remus/Ginny romance. (For the record, it's a Harry/Ginny romance.) It does highlight a strong and true relationship between the two characters I hadn't seen before. After reading what was put there innocently by the writers, I was intrigued. I wanted to know more about the relationship, whatever it was, between those two people. My classic impression of it is "What's going on here?"
That was the beginning of July last year. By the end of the month I was a certain shipper and had signed up for an account at Fiction Alley, promptly going to the Red Riding Hood thread to make my first post. I worked in August on putting a Remus/Ginny site online, and that became GROWL. At the beginning of September, I posted my first shipper story for them at FanFiction.Net.
So that's my shipper history and reasons. It just works for me. If it didn't, I wouldn't be here writing about it, now would I?

Well, my reasons are mixed, and relate to some of what you've already said. It all started when I read Madame's fic When The Past Needs You. I got interested in the pairing and read her other work. After that, I was on FA and read Cinnamon's Chainless Soul, and there was no doubt in my mind after that. It wasn't until after I'd been shipping for a little bit that I read the infamous After The End, and noticed the Remus/Ginny relationship that was there.

Short shameful confession time: I read R/G fic because, well, I like Ginny and I like Remus. I haven't actually spent time thinking about whether or not they'd be right for each other *hides head in shame*

I was all new at FA, and one day I was strolling around in Artistic Alley and found a picture from Cinnamon's 'Chainless Soul' of Ginny and Remus as wolves. And I liked it and thought the pairing was kind of interesting, so I looked up the fic and read it. And I was hooked!

In my opinion, Remus with Ginny has such an outer calm with such an inner intensity. I picture them finishing each others sentences or looking to each other for support and understanding that no one else can give.
I became interested in Remus/Ginny when I read Reading Between the Lines by underyourstars over at Fiction Alley. After a summer at Grimmald Place, Remus and Ginny develop a relationship through letters after she leaves for Hogwarts. After that, I was hooked. I then found some great fics written by AJRoald and aikokone, both at Fic Alley - made me one happy shipper.

Personally, Im a huge multishipper and rarepair shipper at that.
I also have a real taste for Remus and Ginny fictions, so it felt natural to put them togther and I went in search of fics and found that I was right in that theyd be a great couple to read.

i'm not a huge R/G fan (yet, that is) only cuz there's little to no interaction between the two of them in the books. as for the whole age difference thing, well it happens and there's nothing wrong with it.

I totally get your point. However, if you go back and read OOtP, there are tons of unwritten scenes between the two. And I'm not just reading into things. There's one where Ginny is booted out of the Order meeting and awakens Mrs. Black's portrait. Remus is the one to go after her and fix it. Then, there are several mentions of Remus, Ginny and the twins. The biggest one is the Kings Cross. The twins go through the barrier first, followed by Remus and Ginny. Later, on the Knight Bus, after the Christmas holidays, it's mentioned again, the twins, Remus and Ginny.
Also, not that I think that there was anything romantic going on (JKR would NOT go there), there is a multitude of situations where a fondness or kinship could have been formed during that book. Again, this is just my 2 cents.

I'll have to agree with LupinFan on that, too. In fact, that's partly what I based the first 2 even 3 parts of my R/G fic "In My Voice" about. I went looking through the books to find mentions of the characters together. It's just now when I'm re-reading it that I'm finding more. I'm also finding more of other stuff... like Draco's a big know-it-all, but that's another thread. Anyway... this is my take on it: growl.8m.net/fiction/aikakone/inmyvoice.htmlI know most of you have read it, but a little advertising to newbies can't hurt.

Again, this is just my 2 cents. fair enough then. i guess i just haven't paid attention to much in OotP, or any of the books for that matter. like, for example apparently there's a kid named Mark Evans that Dudley beats up, i don't remember him. or someone mentioned there's a part in OotP where Ginny does the Bat-Bogey Hex on Malfoy, don't remember that either. so as of right now, i officially call myself an idiot. i'm gonna try to keep a closer eye on insignificant detail next time. I simply stumbled over it one day. I had just read the fith book and also finished the third another time. I then realized how much I liked Remus. So I was out on the internet one day and searched for pictures of him. What I found was a sketch with a girl watching Remus as a wolf in a forest. I liked the picture scince I draw a lot myself and clicked the link. But I waited until the page had loaded until I pressed to see the pic in large wiew. I read the sign G.R.O.W.L. What the hell is that I wondered and closed the picture window to see the page. At first I wrinkled my nose but after reading Reasons why I was stuck.
